SQL Server Team
In my position I get to present technology to thousands of people.
I'm a Senior Program Manager on the SQL Server® Team. I get to go to colleges and meet with students. I meet with business leaders, tackle tough technical issues, and travel the world. I get to be on stage and present technology to thousands of people in audiences all across the globe.
I attended an education program one summer and it saved my life.
I grew up in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. It was a great place, but most of the people I knew were unemployed, lived on welfare, and never thought about going to college. Later, I had a chance to go to an education program at Michigan State for a summer. My life changed. Michigan State, I say, saved my life.
Star Trek got me hooked on programming.
I didn't think about technology until after I joined the Navy, where I worked with communications and navigation gear on A6 aircraft carriers. I met someone there who had a computer and we played Star Trek every night. He showed me how to break into the game and change the number of torpedoes or the shield strength, so we could go back and attack the Klingons. I thought, "This is programming? This is very cool."
Writing software at Microsoft that impacts millions is the most positive thing for me.
With Microsoft, I always thought 'evil empire' — you know, a bunch of arrogant programmers who think they know everything. I preferred to stay in smaller startup companies where we had more control and got to do more kinds of things. But I didn't know what Microsoft was really like. I had friends who were doing extremely well and having a good time at Microsoft, and I wanted that kind of job. So, I went out and got it. I made the leap.

I help ensure customers are getting authentic Microsoft software.
I manage a service that enables the product groups to sign their software before it goes out to customers, so I help ensure that people get genuine Microsoft® software. I get to work with product groups all over the company.
My passion is learning and sharing my experiences with others.
The best part of my job is interacting with customers, making sure that they have everything they need, that they don't delay their products because of us, and ensuring that internally we provide the best service we can.
For me, it's about trying to help people.
I didn't want to be like everybody else. Back in Colombia, I met one of the first female electrical engineers in the country, and she happened to be my sister’s friend. I wanted to be unique like her and take the challenge. In Colombia, it was very uncommon then to see a female engineer. I was able to achieve that dream here in the United States.
In 2003, I happened to be at a conference of the National Society for Hispanic MBAs, in Orlando, Florida. I met a couple of people who were there to recruit for Microsoft. We had some conversations, one thing led to another, and I got hired. Before I started at Microsoft, I looked on the Internet for the head of the Hispanic group (a Diversity Advisory Council at Microsoft), because it was very important to me to have a Hispanic group at the company. He was in Asia at the time, but he called me and we talked for three hours. He basically sold me on the company, pointing out that there are people here who share my culture, who relate to me as an engineer and as a woman. That helped me make the decision.

ISRAEL HILERIO ::SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER
I take care of customers' needs.
I'm responsible for taking care of customer needs and translating them into technical requirements and technical specifications for our developers.
Customer input helps me balance reality versus the coolness factor.
I have a PhD in computer science, so I'm pretty technical, but at the same time I really like to make sure that I'm not in a bubble developing stuff that people are never going to use. Meeting with a customer gives me the opportunity to get the sanity check that I need to make sure that what I'm building is what they're going to need.
I thought Microsoft was the dark side.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, I liked computers but really more for playing video games. When I started doing programming, Microsoft wasn't big at that time, and I was programming in Unix and Java in my own business in Dallas. But when Microsoft technology started shifting to be more competitive, I thought it would be kind of cool if I were to work there someday. If I wanted to provide great opportunities for my family, this was a great company to do it with. So, working at Microsoft became an interesting possibility that turned out to be fun. Now my parents and my grandparents always brag that I'm at Microsoft.
You can come here and really change the world.
When you're at Microsoft, you start realizing the breadth and depth of this company. I work not only with people in the U.S. but also with people in Europe. Going into global meetings, I feel like I have a different connection with them, and I'm better able to understand the global market. If you really want to be successful at Microsoft, I think you have to have the philosophy that you can make a difference.

I'm part of making a difference at Microsoft.
My role is focused on the attraction, development, and retention of diverse talent at Microsoft. I like that I'm part of making a difference at Microsoft and that I’m contributing to the change in culture.
I'll help make sure you have the right mentors.
It's so rewarding to be able to go out, connect with candidates, and participate in bringing them into the organization.
I think that having people in roles like mine shows the commitment of Microsoft to diversity. I do feel that we're going in the right direction.
Microsoft wanted me — even though I was eight months pregnant!
I was recruited to Microsoft from my last company. Not only was I not looking at the time, but I was also eight months pregnant. I lived in California, and I wasn't moving to Seattle. And they still wanted to talk to me. I said to myself, 'I have to talk to this company.' Since my son was recently diagnosed with autism, I feel very fortunate that Microsoft covers every single thing. I don't have to pay a dime, and he gets what he needs in terms of therapy and resources.

Developer's Platform Evangelism Team
My work is never boring!
I'm a Senior Business Manager for the Developer's Platform Evangelism Team. I get to work on a range of different projects. I may work on an event, on executive communications, on project management for internal operations, or on planning the strategy for the next fiscal year — things that make my job fun.
I've learned how to navigate high-level meetings.
I've been able to go into a room with lots of senior executives — all of whom happened to be male — and deliver results or news effectively. It's a rush to accomplish something that people said would be difficult.
Microsoft is a company you've got to consider.
After college I wanted to take some time to think about what I was going to do in graduate school. But I needed to make money. I ended up working in business development at startup companies where I did market research for the company founders. At the time I didn't think I would move out of Texas — I grew up there. But Microsoft came calling, and I answered!
We're a mini United Nations.
I grew up in what I would call an international community. I was born in Mexico, and I lived there for the first four years of my life. We moved to Texas so my father could pursue his PhD. I'm privileged to work with people from Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, India, Spain, and different parts of Latin America. You hear different languages being spoken on the way to the cafeteria. It feels like a university setting where you have an international community of students. If you just go out and look for it, you'll find any kind of community and interest group you can think of.

KEN JENNINGS
KEN JENNINGS : : ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE MANAGER
Entertainment and Devices Division
I'm driven by my passion to preserve the environment.
I am an Environmental Compliance Manager for the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft. Our products and services touch on so many different aspects of environmental compliance. This career started as kind of an epiphany. I was getting off of a plane in Trinidad and Tobago on my way to Carnival some thirty years ago. At that moment I looked around and the island was so beautiful. I said to myself, 'I must do something to make sure that places like this stay this way always.'
We picked Seattle as a great place to raise a family.
Since then I've been involved in the environmental field. When I finished my PhD., I went to work for the Environmental Protection Agency in my hometown, Washington, D.C. From there I ventured off into industry in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My wife and I decided that we wanted to move someplace where we could raise a family, and we picked Seattle. We have been here since 1991.
Working at Microsoft is a dream come true.
About three years ago an opportunity arose to interview for a position here in environmental compliance. I took the opportunity. Microsoft is a great company with world-wide impact. Our focus on information technology will contribute to helping the whole planet get on track and stay on track when it comes to environmental stewardship.
We're a huge part of the solution.
If you're an environmental scientist eager to have impact, then you should think about coming here. It's a place where you can touch on not only the hardware aspects of the field but also the software aspects and services.

I make sure our products' quality bar is high.
My role is to look at the first-party Xbox® and Games for Windows® portfolio and to make sure that we're delivering on our goals of pushing our platforms and that our quality bar is as high as it should be. I also look across the portfolio and make sure we're delivering on a variety of styles and experiences from a visual standpoint.
I find the work that I do exciting.
When I first started at Microsoft, I thought if I could do this for five years that it would be great experience on my resume. I told myself that when I'm no longer challenged, I'll start thinking about another company. I got here and was challenged by what I was doing. And that challenge continued to grow. There are days when my job feels really hard - and I like that. Trying to be number one in the video game industry keeps me very motivated and inspired. And it's what keeps me at Microsoft.
I'm comfortable walking into a room and showing the value I bring.
I have two passions — gaming and racing. My father raced and sent me to racing school when I was fairly young. Being involved in both passions simultaneously has given me a unique perspective on making racing games and has allowed me to be a better driver. Being able to walk into a room and not care that I may be the only female there and feel comfortable showing the value I bring has been really good for me. At Microsoft, we recognize the value of bringing a female perspective to the creative process involved in gaming.
I'm very proud of what I've done.
Microsoft has been involved in a few of my racing activities, which is very cool. I'm very proud of what I've done in my racing career. I'm very proud of what I've done at Microsoft and in the game industry.

FERNANDO HERNANDEZ
FERNANDO HERNANDEZ : :DIRECTOR OF SUPPLY DIVERSITY
You learn to do business with people who are different from yourself.
I work closely with a community of businesses owned by women, minorities, and service-disabled veterans. Our supplier diversity program gives us access to diverse business communities in the United States, and it also paves the way for Microsoft to be able to take this learning and use it overseas.
The diversity of my background prepared me to be successful at Microsoft.
I grew up as a Cuban-American, so speaking different languages and embracing different cultures and traditions is something that comes very naturally to me. My parents were both factory workers who instilled in us a passion for education, a passion for being able to better ourselves. I earned an undergraduate degree in business at St. Peter's College in New Jersey. I obtained a master's degree, and an MSIS from the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. Then I had an opportunity to take executive training at the Wharton School of Business, which was a great experience. Professionally, I've done pretty much everything — worked in real estate, worked internationally, worked in finance. All this experience in multicultural markets contributes to my ability to do my current job.
We have a level of world-class talent that's second to none.
What I enjoy about Microsoft is the caliber of the people. And they tend to be pretty humble about it — just willing to sit down with you and share a soda — no matter how high up in the company they are or what their accomplishments have been.
Our technology has changed the world.
I'm really passionate about the Unlimited Potential initiative — the potential to go broadly and deeply into markets that we haven't served before, both domestically and internationally. That links both of my passions together: being able to reach out to these diverse communities, domestically and globally, and link them directly to our technology. The technology will empower them, and I think it'll make a huge difference in people's lives. Collectively, I think we will be able to create a much more positive world.

LAURA FRYER : : DIRECTOR
Xbox Advanced Technology Group
At Microsoft I can do what I love to do.
I learned to program as a senior in high school. My mom purchased one of the first PCs, and we had it in our home. I got into computer games quickly, but at the time it was a small industry. So to think that could be a career was not something that was on my mind at the time.
Working with great women leaders was my first experience at Microsoft.
I worked in product support as the lead for a product called Microsoft® Bob. I worked with two very strong women, Karen Fries and Melinda Gates, the Product Unit Manager and the PM. I think we're doing a lot to give more opportunities to women; having women in vice president positions is just one example of this.
Here you can try different jobs and remain in the same company.
When the games group started up, I thought, 'No way! I can go to the games group?' I immediately applied, and I became a Test Lead. I did that for seven months, and then I became a Producer in games. I moved to Xbox® and eventually became the Directorof the Xbox Advanced Technology Group. That's where I helped ship Xbox andXbox 360®. At Microsoft, you can work in one job for a couple of years, decide that you want to try something completely different, and then go to a totally different group.
I can expand my own horizons.
In my group we're trying to reach out, start new things, and bring new experiences to our customers. One of the coolest presentations we did was the XNA ® kickoff at GDC (Game Developers Conference). That was a pretty big demo: 3,000 people. I think it was the first time a woman had been in a keynote at GDC, which was huge. I went over to Japan for the launch of Xbox and that was a really interesting trip.

MICHAEL ROBINSON : : GENERAL MANAGER
Public Sector Business, Middle East and Africa
I'm responsible for the interests of Microsoft in more than seventy-nine countries.
My role is to advance a strategy for our public sector business, primarily governments in the Middle East and Africa. I cover one of the most diverse geographies within Microsoft, more than 1.6 billion people — from some of the richest countries in the world to some of the poorest. All the varying political viewpoints and every religion you could possibly think of exist here. Ninety-five percent of the world's conflicts take place inside my territory.
We absolutely change people's lives.
I've had so many people come up to me at Microsoft and tell me how envious they are of the role that I have today, because I can have such an impact from both a technology and a humanitarian perspective. It's about providing water to people who are thirsty and need to grow food. It's about educating children in schools equipped with technology.
It all started at a Microsoft Diversity event.
I started an executive search firm in New York and was at a diversity event when I met two gentlemen from Microsoft. We talked about the Microsoft vision for technology, where the business was going, and their desire to mature in the enterprise space. As a result of that conversation, they said, 'Your background would be a great fit.' And I'm thinking, 'Okay, I'm a recruiter. Why not get myself a job?'
I couldn't have envisioned the life I live today.
I grew up in the Bronx and went to New York public schools. There just weren't a lot of options for kids in the early seventies when I was in high school. I actually dropped out my senior year. I currently live in Dubai. A magazine just did a profile on me, and my mom told everybody how proud she was. For me, that is the biggest reward that you could ever get.

Windows Server Group
At Microsoft my voice is heard.
I'm in a group within the Windows Server® organization that focuses on bringing the voice of the customer into the product groups. I didn't go to school to be a computer programmer. I don't have a computer science degree. But what I bring to the table is a complementary perspective that is heard and respected.
I'm first thought of as a person with a brain who can help solve problems for customers as opposed to being thought of first as a woman in technology… and I like that.
For me, being here opens up opportunity — both being a woman in this area and just having the ability to help other women understand those opportunities — not simply because they're women, but for what they can bring to the table.
It's important to look at Microsoft holistically.
There are so many opportunities here. Come to Microsoft with an open mind. You'll find that people are very passionate here, but they are also respectful of your input and perspective because it helps them deliver a better solution for the customer.
We need all perspectives to best represent the global customer.
Given the global market and how quickly that landscape changes, if we don't have perspectives representing the areas where those opportunities lie, then we can't move forward.
We are empowered to figure out how we want to attack a problem.
I feel very comfortable raising my hand if I see an issue and have a suggestion, or an alternate plan or path. Everyone is willing to listen.
Work/life balance is a value we take seriously.
A lot of people have the impression that we work 20 hours a day and only go home to shower and sleep for two hours and then come back. In reality we have outside lives too. They do stress the work/life balance here and try to figure out how to add benefits or provide a more flexible work arrangement to accommodate that balance.

BERNARDO ZAMORA : : SENIOR PRODUCT MANAGER
SQL Marketing Group
I wanted to be part of a strong, leading-edge software company.
I make sure that we understand all of the competitors — to know how we compare to them, and then figure out a way to beat them.
I chose technology for the intellectual challenge and the personal rewards.
I like the very precise, defined challenge of getting a computer to do something I want it to do. I still remember how I felt when I got my first computer at eight years old — powerful!
What really matters is the power of your ideas.
I used to work for one of the largest companies in Mexico. I managed all of the IT projects — eight projects a year. I was a Director, with 70 people reporting to me and things got done the way I thought they should be done. There was very little discussion. Here, you sit at a table with a vice president and a person who just got into Microsoft a couple of weeks ago — and they all have an equal stake. The first month I was here, I was in a meeting and I made a suggestion to solve a specific problem. Somebody else said, 'No, I think you're wrong because of this and that.' I was shocked. But I realized that it's about bringing up ideas, talking about them, and getting better results for everyone.
It really is up to you.
To have an impact at Microsoft and on our customers — that's what I want to do and that's what I've been doing. What makes me happy is people saying, 'Bernardo's doing something we've never done before. Let's replicate that in other places in the company.' You have an opportunity to change or challenge the way your own group works. It really is up to you.

ARIF GURSEL
ARIF GURSEL : : TECHNICAL EVANGELIST
Global Independent Software Vendors
My job is telling people about how great Microsoft products are.
I'm a technical evangelist in DPE (Developer and Platform Evangelism), which means I work with other software companies on technology adoption and platform adoption. I find the synergies between our two companies, and educate those companies on the benefits of adopting our technology. I think the best part of my job now is that I get to help companies that I've always been a fan of. It's really fun to go into a company and meet the people who created the programs that I've used and like.
Working here wasn't originally part of the big plan.
I never planned on working at Microsoft, or even with computers. I grew up in Brooklyn, and never even thought about this part of the country. Ever since I was six years old, I wanted to be an architect. Other kids were talking about being firemen and policemen; I was walking around with a T-square. Then I went to my first career fair and no one was hiring architects, but there was a room full of engineering companies, and that's when I decided to change my major. That was when I knew Microsoft was where I wanted to be.
I don't believe that diversity is about filling quotas.
I don't think diversity is about hiring women or more black people or Asian-Americans. It's not about identifying something that seems to be lacking. I think you're going down the wrong path if you do that. But in a global company, in order to make something for the world, you need the world involved. And so I think that's what diversity is, bringing in the unique perspectives from around the globe into one place to make products and services for people everywhere.
Microsoft gave me the mentorship and support I needed.
There are a lot of great role models here. I have had so many role models I can turn to. I'm a member of Blacks at Microsoft, which has a mentoring arm. I personally have a group of senior guys whom I like to get together with, even if it’s just for beers on a Friday, occasionally. And you know my mentors run the gamut, all genders and races. My mentors are just as diverse as the people that I work with. I collect them.
There's an advantage to being the underdog in some areas.
I think the cool thing about Microsoft is that we have areas where we are the market leader, and then you have areas where we aren't. I have personally found fun and passion in working in the areas where we presently aren’t the market leader. It was a great feeling to be at Xbox® when everyone thought that we could not do gaming. People were asking why Microsoft thought it could succeed in that segment. Wewere just a small group sitting over in this building and Xbox LIVE® just recently hadits five-year anniversary. It's crazy, because I remember the day we launched it.

Small to Midmarket Solutions and Partners Group (SMS&P)
To do my job, I have to be both analytical and creative.
I am in charge of determining return on investment for programs and processes for the SMS&P Group. Estimating financial benefits for projects requires creativity, so I get to use both my analytical skills and creative vision. It provides the opportunity for continually learning and then applying that learning to make Microsoft projects even better.
I appreciate the benefits that different viewpoints and backgrounds bring.
What keeps me at Microsoft is the collaboration with multiple individuals, which creates a diversity of viewpoints. I appreciate the opportunity to meet and understand different people from different cultures, and then applying those differences to a collective goal.
I want to offer other people the same opportunities I had.
When I was growing up in Los Angeles, education was important in my family, so I was able to pursue my interests through education. I had a lot of good mentors along the way, so now I give back to the community. I'm helping high school kids prepare for college by preparing for entrance exams, resumes, and building a portfolio. I didn't have guidance with these things growing up, so this is my opportunity to give back and help others achieve their goals in life.
Microsoft is a great place for everyone.
I think Microsoft is a great place for any nationality because everyone has the opportunities to achieve their goals and dreams. Microsoft does reach out globally, and brings those cultural differences and ideas into the company and helps us help the world. Microsoft culture is more collaborative, relationship-based, which definitely gives you the opportunity to connect with others.

My work is all about playing games.
As the Group Program Manager for Xbox® accessories, I manage the Program Management team who drive program details and create Xbox accessories along with the product team; I also own creating and defining the Product Roadmap with the extended team. I think working in hardware at Microsoft is a big bonus, because you really get to touch and play with the fun products, and the consumers are very passionate. Although it’s true I’m not a gamer, I think that can be an advantage, because I can look at things from a 3,000-foot perspective, without the gung-ho attitude. I think I’m successful at my job in part because I am not a gamer.
Microsoft attracts people with strong skills and strong personalities.
When people come to work here, they'll need to plan their own career, particularly in a company as large as this. Microsoft definitely tends to be a strong personality society, so in order to succeed here, people need to be able to stand up for themselves, to effectively communicate and be vocal about what they need in order for them to do well in their roles. If you can't communicate and sell your ideas, you're not going to succeed at Microsoft or anywhere else.
Having access to education has had a big impact on my career.
I was born in Hong Kong, and my family immigrated to the Bay Area when I was ten. I went to college in Berkeley, and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college. I designed and built airplanes at Boeing for many years, and then came to Microsoft, and now I deal with people and companies all over the world. This is the result of having the opportunities for education that my parents didn't have.
I never expected that I'd end up working at Microsoft.
It never really occurred to me that I would end up working here. My background is in mechanical engineering, and the fact that there is even a hardware group in Microsoft is like a small little detail that hardly anybody knows. And I really jumped at the opportunity, to be honest. I always told myself that I would be moving somewhere, and it turned out to be the Pacific Northwest. I'm a big foodie, so having Asian restaurants and grocery stores and everything else is important to me.

We believe every culture and background has something to contribute to making our technologies, products, and services more responsive to the growing diversity of the global market. In other words, for Microsoft to be successful, it's imperative that our workforce reflect the diversity of those with whom we do business.
We also believe it's important that the people creating our technology are representative of the people around the world who use our products and services. It's that simple.
At Microsoft we're actively working to think and behave inclusively and to value and respect differences
We rely on the creativity, fresh insights, and unique experiences that a range of employees bring to work every day. We're also working hard to build programs to ensure that every employee has the tools and the opportunity to contribute fully to the success of the company.
We are changing along with the world
We want to create a community at Microsoft that reflects the global community. That's why we're working to make Microsoft even more appealing to people like you - who have the drive to exceed expectations and take chances. An oasis for mind, body, and soul
The word "campus" is used to describe Microsoft corporate headquarters because of its openness and convenience. There are generous recreational facilities, including a baseball diamond, soccer fields, and volleyball and basketball courts. And after you are done exercising, you can take a shower at one of the many well-equipped facilities.
Whether you're walking to a meeting or taking a stroll along the miles of running paths, there's always something beautiful to see on the exquisitely landscaped grounds. Thousands of works of original art by noted artists enhance both indoor and outdoor spaces. You'll also find designated rooms for nursing mothers, childcare spaces, as well as foosball and ping-pong tables.
To better serve our world-class workforce, we've created a world-class workplace in one of the most beautiful locations anywhere. We offer virtually every amenity you can think of - because you deserve it. Come to work as you are - rain or shine, in shorts or a suit, with braids or a baseball cap. Walk across campus and you'll see each person's individuality shine. We know you'll feel at home here.

Puget Sound beckons you
With unrivaled scenery, great city life, and some of the friendliest people in the world, the greater Seattle area is one of the most desirable places to live in the country. Microsoft headquarters puts you within reach of everything this region has to offer.
Discover our world-class cultural institutions
The Puget Sound area is the perfect blend of urban sophistication and natural splendor. Head out for a day of biking or kayaking, and take in a symphony concert or a Broadway show. Hit the beach during the summer or the ski slopes in the winter. There is always something to do here.

There's music, art, theater, and film
Of course, the region is famous for its vibrant music scene (check out Dimitriou's Jazz Alley). But there are also scores of museums and galleries, stellar restaurants (think Etta's Seafood), and theater and dance performances — such as the UW World Series — to stimulate your senses. Throughout the year there are a number of engaging film festivals that represent many cultures. We also have a great selection of annual cultural events, including:

There's something for everyone in the Pacific Northwest
Whether you're joining Microsoft by yourself or bringing your family, there's something for everyone to enjoy in the beautiful Pacific Northwest — just like on the Microsoft campus.
The region is home to inspiring vistas, including Mount Rainer and the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. In the surrounding areas, you'll discover every kind of microclimate imaginable, from rainforests, deserts, and salt lakes to mineral springs. There are port towns and national parks for you to explore and fall in love with. And there is no end to the different sports you can enjoy, no matter what the season, with the Seattle Supersonics (basketball), Seattle Storm (WNBA), Seattle Mariners (baseball), and Seattle Seahawks (football) in town.
Here's a secret we don't tell everyone
Contrary to what most people think, we actually receive much less rain per year than many other parts of the country. (We don't come close to making the top ten rainiest cities in the U.S.)
Choose Microsoft. Come, explore our wonderful world.

Home is where you make it
As rewarding as your career at Microsoft will be, another great perk of working for Microsoft is the quality of life you can enjoy outside the office.
Seattle offers a wide selection of distinctive and livable neighborhoods. And if the urban lifestyle is not for you, you can take your pick of nearby communities that have reaped the benefits of the region's economic growth while offering a more relaxed lifestyle. From upscale condos to countryside ramblers, you can find the perfect place to call home.
With our vibrant economy and the many successful businesses that owe their origins to the Pacific Northwest, your spouse or partner can look to companies like REI, Boeing, PACCAR, Starbucks, Weyerhaeuser, or Nordstrom for employment.
Life here has a robust flavor
Seattle is also a place that honors the cultural influences of its diverse communities. Whether you're sampling lutefisk in Ballard, enjoying dim sum in the International District, delighting in soul food at The Wellington, or grabbing some pupusas at a Salvadorian bakery, there are plenty of ways to embrace the many heritages that continue to shape the region's unique face.
And if you have children
With the presence of Microsoft and many other technology companies, it's no wonder that Washington State is recognized as one of the most highly educated states in the country. The area offers many highly ranked academic institutions, which include private and public schools and excellent community colleges and universities, like the University of Washington and Seattle University. There is also a robust parks system and outstanding public libraries.
Quality healthcare options include world-class medical facilities like Children's Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. A low crime rate adds to the region's family-friendliness.
Commuting doesn't have to be a battle
We don't want our employees to be stressed out by a bad commute, so we've created ways to ensure an enjoyable trip to and from work. We recently introduced our own bus system that serves our employees around the region, and public transportation options are excellent.

I recruit software and hardware engineers and IT professionals at all levels.
As a recruiter, the opportunities I place in front of people can have an impact on almost every aspect of their life, including where they live, raise their families, and spend their days. It's a responsibility I do not take lightly.
For me, the recruiting process is a natural thing.
From the first time you make contact with a Microsoft recruiter, to going through interviews and receiving an offer, there should be no surprises. It is important to remember that a fit goes both ways: Microsoft needs to be a match for the candidate just as much as the candidate needs to be a match for Microsoft. By discussing candidates' experience, motivations, desires, and passions along with the environment at Microsoft, we can discover together if Microsoft has the right opportunity for you.
There are a few things I look for in every Microsoft candidate.
In addition to the skills, knowledge, and experience required for the job, I look for 'smarts', a strong work ethic, flexibility, the ability to work in a team environment, the ability to prioritize, and a passion for technology.
